All wines start with grapes and all grapes start with “terroir,” or the soil and climate in which the grapes are grown. The Lake Erie region was carved from glaciers that left behind ideal soils for healthy vineyards. Lake Erie, itself, moderates the climate and makes it possible for vines to grow here.
Lake Erie Wine Country is in the largest grape-growing region east of the Rockies. It extends roughly 50 miles along the shore of Lake Erie, from Harborcreek, Pennsylvania to Silver Creek, New York and is home to over 20 wineries. These wineries produce an abundant and diverse list of wines from very dry to sweet, from classic Riesling and Pinot Noir to fruity American, from port and sherry to world-class ice wine.
