Erie is easily accessible by car, train, plane or bus! Located at the intersection of Interstates 79 and 90, you'll find traveling to and around Erie to be a breeze.

Getting Here By Car

• From Buffalo, NY (90 Minutes):
  I-90 West to Erie, Pa. Exits or U.S. Rt. 5 West to Erie.

• From Cleveland, OH (90 Minutes):
  Follow I-90 East to I-79 North to Erie.

• From New York City, NY (7 Hours):
  I-87 North to Tappan Zee Bridge exit onto U.S. Rt. 6 or I-86 Follow I-86 through southern New York state to I-90 in Pa. Follow I-90 several miles to Erie exits. Or as an alternative, take the Holland Tunnel to I-80 to I-79 North to Erie.

• From Harrisburg, PA (4.5 Hours):
  Follow I-476 North to I-80 West to I-79 North to Erie. Or take I-76 to Harrisburg, follow U.S. Rt. 322 to I-80 West then to I-79 North to Erie.

• From Pittsburgh, PA (2 Hours):
  Take I-279 to I-79 North To Erie.

• From Toronto (3.5 Hours):
  Take the Queen Elizabeth Way to Peace Bridge to Buffalo, NY, then follow I-90 West or U.S. Rt. 5 West to Erie.

• From Washington, D.C. (5.5 Hours):
  Take I-270 North to I-70 West. Then get on I-76 West to I-79 North to Erie

Getting Here by Train

Erie is serviced by the Amtrak railroad station located inside historic Union Station in downtown Erie.  To learn more, click here.

Getting Here by Bus

Erie is serviced by Greyhound Bus Lines.  Tickets must be purchased online or by phone (800) 231-2222.  Tickets are not available for purchase in person.  Bus arrivals and departures are located on the outside platform behind the Intermodal Transportation Building, 208 East Bayfront Parkway.  For a list of arrivals/departures click here.  

Greyhound Update: As of 12/22/22, the Greyhound bus terminal located inside the Erie Intermodal Building has been temporarily reopened to passengers. There is still no ticket agent located within the office, but passengers may use the facility to wait for busses and use restroom facilities. 

Transient Boat Dockage

If you're traveling to the Erie region and would like to bring your boat and enjoy the waters of Presque Isle Bay and Lake Erie, there are public marinas available where you can temporarily dock your boat for overnight stays.  Public transient boat marinas can be found at Wolverine Park Marina.  There are also several area private boat clubs that offer transient dockage.  Find the full list here.  

Getting Around Erie

After you arrive, you'll find that flat landscapes and limited traffic make it easy to get around. If you don't want to use your own vehicle, there are options available. 

Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority (EMTA)

The EMTA currently operates 28 fixed bus routes throughout Erie County including to some of Erie's most popular tourist locations like Peach Street, Edinboro, North East, and throughout Downtown Erie.

EMTA Bayliner Trolley and Downtown Cultural Loop

For those that prefer a park and ride service, EMTA offers a Bayliner trolley option throughout Downtown Erie. Both the Bayliner Trolley and Downtown Cultural Loop are offered free of charge. 

The Cultural Loop is a Saturday-only service, offering access to attractions like the Erie Insurance Arena, UPMC Park, the Erie Playhouse, Erie Art Museum and more.
